KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel pounded the Gaza Strip with airstrikes on Thursday, including in the south where Palestinians were told to take refuge, and the country’s defense minister told ground troops to “be ready” to invade, though he didn’t say when.Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals tried to stretch out ebbing medical supplies and fuel for diesel generators to keep the equipment running, as authorities worked out logistics for a delivery of aid into from Egypt. Doctors in darkened wards across Gaza stitched wounds by mobile phone light, and others used vinegar to treat infected wounds. The Israeli military has relentlessly attacked Gaza in retaliation for a devastating Hamas rampage in southern Israel almost two weeks ago. Even after Israel told Palestinians to evacuate the north of Gaza and flee south, strikes extended across the territory, heightening fears among the territory’s 2 million people that nowhere was safe.Palestinian militants fired rockets int...‘I don’t think we can escape’: Veteran Lebanese politician fears Israel-Hamas war will spread

BEIRUT — When asked about the prospect of Lebanon being sucked into Israel’s war with Hamas, Walid Jumblatt, a former militia leader and one of the country’s most iconic political veterans, strikes a pessimistic note. “I don’t think we can escape,” said the 74-year-old ruefully as he shooed his frisky four-year-old dog, Tweggy, away from the assorted nuts on a table piled with books, including a volume on Thomas Mann that he has no time to read. “I am trying to read it, but I keep going to the phone to keep up with the news,” he added. It’s little wonder Jumblatt’s phone keeps ringing. As leader of the country’s 300,000 strong Druze minority and an ex-commander in the 1975-1990 civil war, anyone who is anyone in Lebanon is consulting him as an oracle on how the country can escape being devoured by yet another conflict. After all, he’s a man who knows how a minority can survive and even prosper when surrounded by adversaries. This time, however, he...Police searching for suspect after stabbing in Mattapan leaves elderly male victim dead

Heidi Rivera | Bankrate.com (TNS)Buy now, pay later (BNPL) has quickly become one of America’s favorite ways to pay, especially among young consumers. BNPL’s premise is simple: you get to split a big purchase into four equal interest-free installments, which are usually due every two weeks.BNPL products are often marketed as a lower-risk alternative to credit cards — and they can be. But the illusion of inexpensive payments can make it easy to get carried away, resulting in loan stacking and financial risk. Luckily, there are some ways to fix it.What is loan stacking?Loan stacking is when you’re juggling multiple loans (or credit products) with the same characteristics and payment terms, simultaneously. According to a recent report by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), loan stacking is one of the most common risks among BNPL users.Unlike other credit products, which require a hard credit pull, BNPL platforms typically approve users based on a soft credit check. The war in Israel is steeped in history. So you need to start at the beginning.David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948.
