(CNN) — Parts of the eastern US will face tricky holiday travel after avoiding deadly blizzard conditions and ice that slammed the central US earlier this week.A batch of steady rain will move across the mid-Atlantic through Wednesday afternoon and push into the Northeast by Wednesday evening. This rainfall could become heavy at times, especially late Wednesday and Wednesday night.Washington, DC, Philadelphia and New York City all face a Level 1 of 4 flood threat from the heavy rain.Ponding on roadways could slow travel on the ground and reduced visibility may lead to flight delays.Wednesday’s travel weather hazards come after a blizzard-fueling winter storm swept across the Plains and upper Midwest with heavy snow, freezing rain and strong winds, creating dangerous travel in the busy holiday week.Light-to-moderate snow as well as rain and freezing rain could fall over parts of the region Wednesday, but will largely wrap up by the end of the day. While others were decking the halls, thieves working Boston’s western suburbs were trying to line their pockets for Christmas. The Mansfield-based Roche Bros. Supermarkets, which owns 20 stores under a variety of names, reports that an employee of their Sudbury Farms location “noticed an inconsistency” at a self-checkout lane in the store.Store management checked it out and found two credit card skimmers. Those are devices laid on top that look nearly identical to legitimate credit card machines. But, they capture the financial information on a card’s magnetic stripe.Thieves would then come back and retrieve the ill-gotten financial information and make off with somebody else’s credit.“Roche Bros. Supermarkets immediately took steps to secure all registers at all stores and upon deeper inspection over the holiday break credit card skimmers were found on self-checkouts at 4 more locations,” the company wrote on Tuesday. “Law enforcement has been contacted. The locations affected are: t...BHR-L-Page1-1228c

Typical! The Grinch careened into a bad time in southern New Hampshire on Christmas Day.“What the?? Our brand new road sign was destroyed (again) yesterday on Christmas, along with our mailbox, walkway lights, honey stand, etc.,” The Word Barn, an Exeter, N.H., music venue, posted on its Facebook page Tuesday. “We’re amazed and so very glad no one was hurt, but imagine our surprise when we raced outside to assist and found … the Grinch?! Can’t make this stuff up.”That’s right. The Grinch!Exeter Police responded to the site of the crash — 66 Newfields Road — at a little before 6 p.m. on Christmas to find not a shining sleigh and Santa but, instead, a very beat-up silver Honda CRV on the front lawn of the music venue and a fully costumed Grinch behind the wheel. The car had significant front-end damage, a smashed windshield and a broken rear driver’s side window, according to the Exeter Police Department. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene by the New England Truck Center. The co...Mississippi health department says some medical marijuana products are being retested for safety

The Chicago area has cycled into a colder—though STILL ABOVE NORMAL---temp regime with Wednesday's high of 42 deg—a temp which equals the normal highs here at the end of November. So we essentially had temps which would have been considered normal 3 weeks earlier. While the Wednesday high of 42 was still 8-deg above normal, it ALSO REPRESENTED A READING 17-deg chillier than Christmas Day's (Monday's) near record 59-deg high. The Chicago Bears have a star receiver in DJ Moore, another potential deep threat in Darnell Mooney and an improved offensive line.Despite all that, they're 28th in the NFL in passing after beating the Arizona Cardinals 27-16 on Sunday. Coach Matt Eberflus would like to see more big passing plays.“We just got to just continue to work on that,” Eberflus said Tuesday. “It’s got to, to your point, get the downfield, explosive throws. How you score in the NFL is to get explosive passes and explosive runs. That’s what you need to do.” Opinion: Why Jim Harbaugh isn’t going to be a Chicago Bear The Bears are averaging 182.6 yards passing. And with two games remaining, they don't have much time left to work on it.The Bears came into the season hoping Justin Fields would take a big step forward as a passer. But that hasn't happened.Against Arizona, Fields had a 53-yard completion to tight end Cole Kmet. But his overall passing numbers were modest: 15 of 27 for 170 yards, aft...Latest news
