9 shot in downtown Cleveland, man seriously wounded as police search for suspect

CLEVELAND (AP) — An early morning shooting in a nightclub area of downtown Cleveland sent nine people to the hospital, but no fatalities were reported, authorities said.Police said preliminary information indicated someone opened fire toward a group of people in the Warehouse District shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday as the clubs were closing. The suspect apparently fled.Chief Wayne Drummond of the Cleveland police department said seven men and two women between the ages of 23 to 38 were struck. One of the men was seriously wounded while injuries to the others were minor, he said.Officers assigned to the district’s weekly detail arrived quickly to help the victims, after which they were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Lowell police are turning to the public for help as they continue to search for a missing 7-year-old girl.Anna, who is autistic and nonverbal, was last seen between 2 and 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the area of East Merrimack Street in the Belvidere section of the city and may be on a bicycle. She is described as being a Black girl who is 4 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 70 pounds. She was last seen wearing black shorts, a white vest, and a purple hair tie.Even before Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Authorities are investigating four suspicious fires in Concord on Sunday.Emergency crews responding to a reported fire at the Beede Swim Center on Walden Street around 12 p.m. found two fires, one behind the swim center and one in front.Then, around 12:30 p.m., crews responded to another fire at the US Post Office on Walden Street and another about a half-hour later on Lexington Road.There were no reported injuries.A person of interest has been identified in connection with the fires, officials said. Items possibly related to the other incidents were found outside of Concord District Court and all of the incidents remain under investigation.
